SplitRide is built on trust. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and who can see it.
1.Who We Are
SplitRide is a shared-ride coordination platform operating in the United Arab Emirates. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our services.
2.Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you register and use SplitRide:
• Phone number (used as your unique account identifier)
• Display name and profile photo (used to identify you to ride-mates)
• Gender (used for ride compatibility and safety features)
• Contact details you voluntarily add: WhatsApp number, Botim number
• Payment methods you voluntarily add: e-money number, bank name, IBAN
• Trip history: trips you create, join, and complete
• Payment records: receipts and proof uploads related to fare splits
• Device push notification token (for ride alerts)
• Location data (only when you use the "Show rides near me" feature — not stored)
3.How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to operate the SplitRide platform:
• To verify your identity via phone OTP
• To match you with other commuters on the same route
• To display your name, photo, and reliability score to ride-mates on shared trips
• To share your WhatsApp and payment details with confirmed co-riders so they can coordinate and pay you
• To send you push notifications about your trips and payments
• To calculate and maintain your Reliability Score
• To enforce payment accountability and restrict users who violate platform rules
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the service.
4.Data Shared With Other Users
When you confirm participation in a trip, the following information is made visible to the other confirmed participants of that specific trip only:
• Your display name and profile photo
• Your gender
• Your WhatsApp number (if provided)
• Your payment methods (Botim, e-money number, bank name, IBAN) — only shown to participants who owe you after a completed trip
• Your Reliability Score
This sharing is necessary for ride coordination and fare collection. It stops when the trip is completed or cancelled. We do not share your data with any third party outside of your confirmed trip group.
5.Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secured servers. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords and OTP codes are hashed and never stored in plain text. We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Trip and payment records are retained for accountability purposes.
6.Push Notifications
If you grant notification permission, we store a device push token to send you alerts about trips you are part of (e.g. participant joined, ride started, payment due). You can revoke this permission at any time from your device settings. Revoking permission will stop notifications but will not affect your account.
7.Your Rights
You have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Withdraw consent to data sharing by not participating in trips

8.Children
SplitRide is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has registered, please contact us immediately.
9.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notification. Continued use of SplitRide after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
